In Florence, on October 29, 2015 the new, spectacular Museum of the Opera del Duomo, where the largest collection of florentine medieval and renaissance sacred sculptures in the world is preserved, will be inaugurated.
750 works of art, among which masterpieces of the major artists of the time : Donatello, Michelangelo, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Luca della Robbia, Arnolfo di Cambio, Andrea Pisano, Antonio Pollaiuolo, Andrea del Verrocchio and many others : 5500 square meters of exposition area, more than double the previous museum, 25 halls on three floors, some of which huge; an innovative and spectacular setting which enhances masterpieces that are unique in the world, such as Michelangelo’s Pietà, Donatello’s Magdalena and the Prophets, Luca della Robbia and Donatello’s Cantorie, the legendary Gate of Paradise and the northern Gate of the Baptistery of Florence, both by Lorenzo Ghiberti.
The Museo dell’Opera del Duomo is part of the museum system of the Grand Cathedral Museum which includes the Cathedral of Florence, Brunelleschi’s Dome, the Cript of Santa Reparata, the Baptistery of Saint John and Giotto’s Bell Tower. An unicum of art, faith and history.
